If you ever want a testimonial of how a treadmill desk can help you lose weight, or rather one particular desk, the Lifespan TR1200-DT5 then watch the video above from Jordan. a prominent vlogger from twil.tv. Who would have thought a few years back that there would even be such a thing as a treadmill desk?

Just to clarify this is a desk and treadmill all in one unit. The treadmill is based on Lifespan’s multiple award winning TR1200i which features state of the art shock absorption and a high torque motor. The treadmill walking area is a roomy 20in x 56in. The treadmill will start at a snail’s pace at 0.4mph, so it won’t throw you off balance with a jerky start. It will go on to a top speed of 4 mph which is more than enough for desk job duties.

It measures exactly 31 x 46.5 in. It has a small console unit which sits on the desk and controls the treadmill speed and displays all the ratings for your walking speed, steps you’ve done and distance you have walked.

For your comfort and stability there are padded foam injected armrests on top of the desk front which will enhance your office duties. They also support your wrists and protect against repetitive strain injuries.

The desk also has a slot to keep computer and printer cables off the desk surface and there is also a cable tray underneath the surface to store any extra cables and office equipment, communication devices or stationary.

So what size of people will this treadmill desk-combi suit?

So what Stops the treadmill platform from vibrating or moving the desk?

Well the frame of the desktop is stand alone and not attached to the treadmill. This ensures no vibrations or movement from the treadmill platform transfers to the work desk.

The desk is made of a one inch thick composite board and has a toughened laminate surface which sits on a rugged hard wearing thick steel frame which will not sway or buckle under pressure.

There is built in Intelli-guard safety technology which will stop the treadmill if it detects 20 seconds of inactivity. There is also a safety key which will cut the treadmills power if removed.

Will A Treadmill Desk Get You Fit?

Treadmill desks naturally do not reach the same speeds as stand alone treadmills. They are built with distance in mind. You don’t need to run a marathon each day to keep in shape and keep your joints mobile. Lots of studies actually suggest that brisk walking is a lot more beneficial for you than jogging. Treadmill desks also have very little impact on your joints and tendons.

From a posture point of view, anything that gets you up from sitting for most of the day is a blessing. Most back problems result from sitting continuously, and if you already have back issues, siting will only make them worse. Plus the good thing about having a treadmill under your desk is that you can switch it off when you get too busy.

Is This Treadmill Desk Hard To Set-Up?

Set up time is very minimal indeed, there is virtually nothing to do with the treadmill, so it’s only the desk attachment, and that’s pretty straightforward.

The TR1200-DT5 is the best selling treadmill desk made by Lifespan. You can also sync it to your wireless trackers like fitbit or or applications including the LifeSpan Club on your smartphone or computer via bluetooth. Fitbit is far superior.

Finally the TR1200-DT5 has been designed to work with long sessions in mind. Use it for hours each day and it will not have an impact on the life of this machine. The motor has been precision engineered to operate for hours at low consistent speeds.

It makes use of an extremely quiet whisper drive motor which would be no louder than your average computer fan. It will not overpower your office space with noise levels. It won’t interrupt your concentration flow.

Can You Really Work & Get Fit On A LifeSpan TR1200-DT5 Treadmill Desk?

Yes if you have good balance and coordination. For intricate computer tasks that require a lot of precision mouse clicks you can certainly miss the mark. The solution is to slow the desk down or just stop it completely if you need to use a pen, draw, or when you can’t click on the screen in the exact spot you need to.

You don’t need the desk to be moving all the time, it’s just a tool to stop you from sitting all day. Even standing on it and working when it is not moving is better for you than sitting down for 2 hours while you work. If you also have balance or fitness issues you may not like the desk at first. Once you get off it you can experience motion sickness. This can mean you are not fit, even for light long spells of walking on the desk. Or there could be a lack of oxygen in the room, you may need a fan or to open a window, especially if the room is stuffy

It can be hard to concentrate on a computer screen if you are not used to the sensation of moving. The slight movement can strain your eyes, and you can feel dizzy once you stop. The solution is to work yourself gently onto the desk. Take 5 mins on and then take a rest. Slowly build up your time and if you don’t like it, take a break altogether and go back in a few days.

Oh and remember to pack some antiperspirant.
